As winter slowly turns to spring, it's becoming more bearable to be outside! When you live in a rainy city like I do a little bit of sun can do wonders for your mood. At my zoo, your work load changes with the seasons.

Some of you may have seen some funny zoo signs during your Internet travels. I think they're pretty hilarious but, as a keeper, I can see that zoos are using humor out of desperation to get their point across. There are so many people who break the rules as zoos and they don't think twice about what the consequence may be for the animals.

When our animals develop health issues, it's our job to fix them. I'm going to share with you a story about just how hard it can be to to cut a tiger`s claws. This story involves Sweetie, a Siberian tiger. She hates people. She growls at everyone, including her keepers and she will get up from laying in the middle of her enclosure perfectly peaceful, and move to sit right by the fence, just to growl at people when they stop to look at her.

I'm back from vacation! I love visiting zoos or aquariums when I'm in other countries because they are all so different. When my husband and I were in Japan we visited Nagoya Aquarium. The aquarium itself is huge, though not all of it is filled with displays.

Every so often I'll post pictures like the one below. People are often astonished when I tell them that each animal I take care of has a different personality. Boomer (my male African lion) makes his injuries seem worse than they are to get attention, so does Tuzzi (my yellow baboon).

We have seven yellow baboons at our zoo. Five of them came form Granby Zoo in Quebec and two of them were born at our zoo. The baboons provide me with hours of entertainment. They really are a lot like people, in a weird, hairy sort of way.

Ocean is fast becoming my favorite word. I have had a love for and fascination with the ocean, ever since I was a little girl. I loved how the colours would change with every season. The ocean can go from blue to neon green or from a vibrant red to a mucky brown - sort of like nature's mood ring

The other night I spoke at an event called Rain City Chronicles. The theme was animal instincts and I shared a story about one of my tigers from the zoo I worked at. I was absolutely terrified to speak in front of over two hundred people, but everyone was very supportive and they seemed to enjoy my tale of the not-so-sweet Sweetie.
